We had our first trip to Powderham Castle early in October this year to exhibit at the Powderham Castle Food Festival. We have heard so many good things about this show that we couldn't resist taking the heard down for the weekend and sampling some of the food and drink on offer. Powderham Castle is a delightful venue and despite the weather threatening to make the event a wet one, the steady stream of foodies were not put off. The castle is still the official residence to Charles Courtenay, the 19th Earl of Devon and his wife, American actress A. J. Langer who popped into our marquee to say hello on Sunday.
It is always good to be positioned between other quality exhibitors, especially when on one side you have a Fudge maker and on the other a Rum Distiller. I got chatting to Gemma from Two Drifters Brewery which she set up with husband Russ not even 1 year ago and they are doing so well. I came away with a bottle of Spiced Rum which we have been sampling almost daily since we returned. It is great to hear how two people with a passion for a product can make a business work, Gemma was telling me that they can hardly keep up with orders and had to go back to bottle more Rum on Saturday night! We even exchanged some Moo Platters in exchanged for the Rum and to be honest, I think I got the better deal.
The event at Powderham will definitely feature in the Lucy's Farm annual show calendar in the future. We loved the vibrant feel of the event, with plenty of local food and music to entertain the casual Gin tasters in the fully stocked Gin Tent. If you are looking for a great day out next year, keep this one in mind, we hope to see you there! |
