When you think of men's watches you don't immediately think of a country or county show so we were surprised when we met Sam from WT Author at the Bath and West Show. Sam pitched up at the entrance to the Country Lifestyle hall next to us and we quickly got talking about his business and carried on the discussion over a beer after the main gates closed. What really impressed us was the artisan feel of WT Author, Sam Holland and Jonathan Shakespeare met at university and worked as designers for four years at the same company before deciding to take on the British Men's Watch industry. It really is Dragon's Den stuff and we loved the innovation and entrepreneurial drive they have. The first watch was launched at 13:00 on Friday, 13 September 2013 via crowd-funding, raising just over £10,000l through 33 backers.
Sam is taking to the road again soon and we will be watching the events they are attending with interest, one cool event they are sponsoring is the Best Dressed Festival Guy at this year's Eroica Britannia. It's in the Peak District so a little far for us to travel but we wish them all the best.
